luke, i dont know if you already play something and im just not hearing it well but i think during the banjoey guitary breakdown you should do a harmony and we should make that shit soar. PEACE.

The first full recording on the "loud fans" version is great, I think we really improved it...just need to use the ending at very beginning of the recording

By the way, listen to Version 4 again...there's a lot of cool stuff we can pull from it. For instance, Bruce you should play the bendy stuff that you originally recorded for the uke. And the chorus has a nice back and forth thing going on rhythmically (Luke's guitar part).

So glad you said something. I've always felt the same way. I have always had a few lines in my head for that part and I was hoping to let Josh in on them next time. We should try it next time.

The sections coming out of the choruses sound great. The "We've gotta get outa here" part of the chorus needs a lot of work. Maybe we can try something else entirely...it's always bugged me.

"Listen to ravi at 4:27-4:28, he plays a cool riff that we can flesh out" Luke, I can't hear what i'm playing at all during those 2 seconds in the dueling banjos version haha. I agree that transition in version 4 sounds really good at 2:60. Actually, a lot of stuff from version 4 that I thought sounded great got lost along the way. The intro and "verse" in version 4 sound awesome. Bruce, you should start playing that bendy/sharp plucky stuff again that you recorded on uke or guitar. Also we were able to do a lot with the orchestration and layering since the verse was longer. Not saying that it needs to be as long as it was in ver 4, but I like the dynamic contrasts we were able to achieve by having a longer verse and staggering parts. if you remember, we (or pete rather) spent more time layering the song than we did recording it. Even though it was pretty long, it didn't feel crazy repetitive because each part had a different feel/texture depending on the orchestration and focus on melody and countermelodies. also there are several places in v4 that would bring attention to a vocal melody (vocals sound good on the new tracks, breakdown would sound better with them too). granted a kit brings about a completely different dynamic than a coffee mug and wooden table, but you get the point. luke, were you saying we should do something similar to the trumpet harmonies in v4 during the 2nd chorus and transition back into last verse? i always liked that trumpet part and it sounds better than most of the noodling when we were trying to come up with something at the end of dueling banjos. there were a couple ideas we played that could sound good if we extracted them, but most of the horn stuff on there was trashy. or do you guys think there should just not be any horns on this song at all? keyboard?

I see what you guys are saying about the transition from the chorus to the choppy stuff...we should try it with those 2 measures again. But Josh we should keep the same energy going and just change the chord. What do you guys think about the verse, chorus, breakdown, chorus, verse structure?

The song sounds perfect going back into the verse after the first chorus, with the dropout and the drums n' bass and bruce's guitar stabs... ugh.. perfect. I think we should chop off the accidental third verse/chorus iteration we tacked on (as far as the structure goes, we shouldn't necessarily drop all the ideas that came out of that part, esp. the horn parts, which were awesome) to make this song short and sweet. Also, i agree with bruce that we might want to try chopping the last buildup of each chorus by two bars so that we hit the verse right after the really bashy drum part, whatchall thank? and maybe we should do the 1 bar bass drum "solo" before the second chorus as well. oh and doober, your vocals are awesome, it sounds/feels really natural and right.

i agree the beginning sounds good, i like the vocals a lot. it starts to lose itself on the second verse with the horn noodling. definitely need longer notes to break up the clutter and some unison parts like @ 3:00 (2:60). i think horns could sound good in the last chorus if we aren't just fucking around. Listen to ravi at 4:27-4:28, he plays a cool riff that we can flesh out Just for kicks listen to the first Version 4. Not meaning to toot my own horn (HA) but I like the outro part, though I agree it doesn't really fit with the rest of the song. The transition from that part back into the chorus does sound really good (@3:00). maybe we can mess around with it and work it into a set as filler

The intro/verse is sounding really good. Ravi/Luke just need to work out a cool part for the middle section. I'm not sure if they should continue playing horns through the last chorus though, thoughts?

we need to solidify a pretty little whistle part at the beginning, a lot like what we did just louder. the chorus should be partially me singing and partially a written harmony that a few of us sing (an actualy CHORUS). at 2:10 josh you fucking rock the chorus with that beat, but instead of the way we play it, it should end right after that rocking beat (in other words cut it in half) and go straight into the broken up guitar over bass/drums thing. it gets a little cluttered during that choppy part when the horns finally come in, but ravi and i start playing sort of in unison right around 3:00 and we should bring that out more. then the loud part at 4:30 should end the song. i have the structure worked out completely in my head, i hope we can give it a try next practice! GREAT JOB GUYS
